A Universal issue is the threat from Thermal Pollution, which has resulted in Global Warming. One of the major contributors is the transport sector. The Internal combustion engines due to partial combustion or due to the improper combustion of fuels in IC Engines emits toxic emissions like NOx, CO, CO2 etc., During winter “Smoke + Fog = Smog” poses extreme difficulties to the commuters due to very poor vision and irritation of eyes due to the toxic emission, more so in Urban areas where density of Automobiles is high.
This situation has forced us to look for alternate ways to commute and transport commodities using alternate fuels such as Electricity, Hydrogen, Natural gas etc., However, immediately replacing the existing fossil fuels powered Automobiles is a near impossible task and such an attempt will destabilize the economy of any country for that matter. Essentially, this must be done in a phased manner. Again totally replacing the present Diesel and Petrol powered automobiles is not possible. They are necessary evil. Only, a substantial part of transportation requirement say 50 to 60 %, may be taken care by Electric Vehicle, Hydrogen and CNG powered automobiles. However, CNG availability is limited and are confined certain Geographic locations only. Further, Hydrogen powered automobiles on road, require to pass many tests before it’s a reality.
In this existing situation, a viable alternative lies in EV – Electrical Vehicles only. EVs themselves have certain inherent technical, economic and social limitations.
